A Little Update…China and the Great Firewall

Just a quick update here – I’m heading to China today!

Yep, right this very moment I am en route to meet two friends from the states in Beijing. You’ve seen them in past stories here on A Little Adrift, but you’ll meet them again in a few weeks, once I manage to post the many stories and photos China will inspire.

Thanks to Travis at Flashpacker HQ for the snapshot below and some China tips (as well as the dozens of China posts at Uncornered Market) as I panicked and prepped the past couple days!

Great-Wall-of-China

This is what I have to look forward to in Beijing, then a handful of days in Guilin and Yangshou before wrapping up in Shanghai at the end of the month when I’ll part ways with Niki and Peter and head back to my temporary home in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Post Schedule, But Firewalls in Place

I have a couple of travel memories lined up for the next two weeks to keep you entertained. China has what is known as the Great Firewall of China in place to block websites and information access. Although I could use a VPN or proxy and work a lot from the road (and may use it to feed my Facebook addiction), I’m choosing not to deal with slow connections and frustrations; I’m taking a bit of a break!

Thanks for following the journey thus far, thanks for understanding the dearth of posts in the coming 11 days, and see you on the flip side! :)
