A Little Thought…The Lost Girls Inspire RTW Travel

Two years ago, nearly to the month, I stumbled across a blog that, quite literally, changed my life.
They dubbed themselves “The Lost Girls” and they were three women who quit their jobs in NYC to travel around the world together for an entire year…and what’s more, they documented the entire trip on their blog several years before other women travel bloggers were doing the same.
It was revolutionary to me. Women could do this? Like actually take off from the US for a whole year to travel?
Their blog came at …

A Little Review…No Debt World Travel

About a month ago Brian from No Debt World Travel contacted about the launch of a new guide he wrote (and he provided me with a free copy of the e-book). Titled the same as his site, I was enthused to review his guide, No Debt World Travel, and share my thoughts here on A Little Adrift – because I figured – hey, a lot of RTW newbies find my site and wouldn’t it be just swell to tell them how they can travel the world without debt.
Interestingly enough, …

A Little Confession…My SEO Job aka Why I’m Not a “Real” Backpacker

I feel like a cheater in the RTW traveler club. You see, members of the RTW traveler club share some key qualities: most save up over the course of several years, they quit their jobs, and they (mostly, aside from travel blogging) single-mindedly backpack the world.
I didn’t do that. Not any of it actually.
I worked steadily from the road my entire RTW trip.
My Travel-Enabling Job
So here’s my confession to you: I perform freelance SEO (search engine optimization) work and I worked from the road every single week of my …

A Little Question…Are Carbon Offsets Worth the Trouble?

Climate change and carbon offsetting is one of those highly controversial topics that can spark debates and heated words within the travel industry (hey, it’s happened). And while it’s front and center on some traveler’s agenda, the topic is also often swept under the carpet and ignored so that we can continue traveling guilt-free.
And lest you think I’m pointing fingers, let me be the first to admit that I flew a grand total of 14 flights in just 11 months to take my dream round the world trip…that’s not …

A Little Insurance…Travel Insurance with World Nomads

The initial plan for this post was to research all of the different travel insurance options out on the market for budget backpackers and round the world travelers. And I did all of the research, but rather than providing a compare and contrast of the key travel insurance companies, I really came to the conclusion that World Nomads is simply the best on the market for gap-year or RTW travel.
After sussing out all of the negative and positive reviews on other backpacking and travel sites, it’s pretty clear that …

A Little Review…Purifying with SteriPEN

This week we’ll look at another product that I took on my trip around the world. While it’s no secret that I support traveling lightly and packing only what’s necessary , the definition of necessary is subjective. And it’s also a tough call here with the SteriPEN Handheld Water Purifier. Cousin H bought a SteriPEN for us to use throughout India and Nepal and we did use it the vast majority of the time – and we mostly didn’t get sick (at least not from the water!).
Again, I don’t …

A Little Review…Go Green: A Diva Cup for the Ladies

I’ve wanted to review the Diva Cup for awhile but didn’t want to shock any of my male readers. But the time has come and I will start out this product review with a warning:
Attention Men: Move Along Now
Consider that your warning. But also consider that you may find this review helpful for your girlfriend or wife – it’s actually worth a read if you’re not easily embarrassed!
Now, onto the product – I’m writing this review without any incentive (read: they’re not paying me!) and truly just love this …
