A Little Recap…Ah, Saturday

9 October 2009 Comments

I’ve noticed that several other of the travel blogs out there do some sort of round-up of their favorite travel stories, bloggers, and just a general overview of their blog on a regular basis.

In an effort to get some structure over here at A Little Adrift I’m working diligently to get the new design up and running and to work out a set schedule of posts, reviews, and blogs that you will be able to expect on weekly basis.

This “Saturday Review” is going to be a bi-weekly (occasionally more often if necessary) post to give back some of the link love out there a well as highlight where else you can find A.L.A in the blogosphere.

Highlights from the Travel Community:

  • Eva and Jeremy at Forks and Jets are currently on their own RTW trip and this blog about Turkish Delight made me head straight for the fridge – I have a serious sweets addiction and even though I don’t love (or even like) jellified sugar, umm…those look amazing.
  • Anil’s post about learning foreign languages prompted me to find Meetup.com and within one minute, viola! I discovered a weekly Spanish meet-up at my local Panera. How did I not know this site existed?! Did you guys? Seriously cool, and it’s global. Thinking this will help me get over the post-travel blues while also honing my mad Spanish skills for South America in a few months!
  • Jason and Aracely are right at the beginning of their trip around the world and I think it’s grand fun to start out with them from the beginning :-)

And in non travel related interests (ish), since I’m really focusing on expanding the scope of the blog now that I’m back, I’ve discovered The Art of Non-Conformity – I thought the free-ebook was a great, motivational read for other bloggers and it kick-started my derriere into back into work mode.

Several of my posts were highlighted on some great blog carnivals for the week. Check out Andy Hayes’ Inspirational blog carnival. Also check out the Carnival of Cities and Everything Down Here for a medley of information and roundup of other travel blogs.

I’ll also post a link to an empty but fully formatted RTW Budget spreadsheet next week in case anyone else wants to obsessively record their every single expense on their own trips.

I think that might be just a bit overwhelming enough for the the first of these round-ups :-)

Cheers and happiness folks!

  • With my poor planning skills I don't have a definite time myself but think we'll be there in March/April. Peru's on our list too.
  • Hi Shannon, thank you for mentioning my post and glad it inspired you! When and where in South America are you going?
  • I actually have no idea, it's pretty up in the air right now and I just know that I want to head that way and make it to Machu Picchu in the late Spring. Saw that you are heading there - do you know where you and your wife are going yet?
  • Organization is lacking in my life as well. I can't keep up to anything at the moment. I think that I need to start a spreadsheet also.
  • If you can keep up with them, they are just amazing for getting everything together. Before I left I had one with tasks highlighted in different colors and a whole outline of what had to happen before I got on the plane to Oz - it made me a bit more sane when I got overwhelmed :-)
  • Nice roundup! I'll also look forward to your Saturday reviews.....AND the spreadsheet link - organization is one thing that is sadly lacking in my life right now, so I'll gladly accept any tools I can find that will help!
  • Thanks Trisha! I'm actually glad that others like the spreadsheet - it holds a special place in my geeky heart, lol! :-)
  • Wow, you have been busy! Great to see you were a part of several carnivals. I had read the Art of Non Conformity when we first started to get our blog into gear in May. It was great motivation. Great round up and looking forward to the future Saturday posts.
  • Thanks Deb! I have been a bit lost since I've been back and the AONC kicked some motivation into me. Along with Gary Vaynerchuck too - I've been watching some of his videos and man does he have a strong personality, but good motivation :-)
