A Little Development…Building this Blog

15 August 2009 Comments

Today I just discovered a new feature on Twitter…and it’s kind of sad because it’s really one of the main/basic features on the site – the @Shannon08 page – this let’s me see what other people are saying to me and about me. Really obvious for Twitter users but sadly one of the things I have missed over the past month or so of use.

That’s one of the drawbacks of trying to grow my audience for this travel blog as I am on the road – I’m new to Twitter, and StumpleUpon, and all of the rest of these sites and I’ve discovered that, you know what, there is a learning curve!

Right now, I’m balancing between being on my trip and getting outside and exploring and reckoning that with keeping the blog up to date and actually getting readers here, to the blog, to read along and contribute. And you know, it sucks sometimes to be here in the hostel plugged into the WiFi, but at the same time, I wouldn’t have it any other way really.

I love building this blog and ask that all of my fellow bloggers who follow along, bear with me as I catch up!  :-)   As tech-savvy as I am in some regards, these social networking sites are new to me and I’m working on it!

Also, I am hoping to launch a new look for the site in the next couple of weeks – I am finishing up the design and then I expect full feedback!

My goal for today? Learn more about harnessing the power of Twitter – thanks to the suggestion of Deb and Dave over at The PlanetD I am going to teach myself how to use su.pr today and hope that it works – woo-hoo!  Then I am off for a hike around Loch Ness for some Nessie spotting!

For more tips and travel stories you’ll want to subscribe to my RSS feed…it’s free and I promise I don’t bite!

  • I can't imagine trying to build a blog and travel. We are leaving in a little over 2 months and I am still trying to learn about everything. That is why I am trying to share as much as possible too. We can all learn from each other. Glad you are on twitter. As a matter a fact, I am going to tweet this post now. I am really starting to like su.pr It lets you know how many people stumbled your tweet, how many clicks and how many retweets. It is also pretty easy to learn. Just a few of the drawbacks that I mentioned on my post.
  • Two months! Yikes! As for su.pr - I really can't decide if I like that the link goes to SU instead of my site - your thoughts? I am torn between tweetlater and su.pr...

Hey don't worry about being behind on Twitter, I still haven't tried that one yet and I need to for work. Maybe you will be the one to teach me when you get back :) Glad to hear all is going well. See you soon!
  • Twitter is great and it's pretty easy to get the hang of it once you get a chance to play with it.

I'm curious to see the new design when it's ready, perfect thing to tweet about!
