My lucky weather streak didn’t hold and our travel day from Milna started a bit ominously, I woke up to the sounds of thunder in the distance and a quick look outside the cottage window showed a sky pregnant with dark clouds and rain –it didn’t bode well for making it across the country and to a new Croatian town.
But, rain wasn’t about to stop us so it we spent the morning closing up the cottage, putting away the dishes, locking closed the windows and repacking our packs. I …

Sorry to disappoint with no new hair picture….none of them are very good – I just dyed it though so once the color dulls down I will post one…maybe tomorrow. ;)
*********
I have to admit, Milna is a bit different than I first imagined. The town is tiny, but it is actually a bit of a tourist hub for a part of the day.
Small cruise ships pull up into the harbor around late morning and about 40 or so older tourist come crawling off of the ship like ants …

Eight months on this rtw trip has taken a toll on me. Not just mentally, because there is certainly some of that, but physically too. Helen and I indulged vanity in India with the purchase of a small bottle of nail polish. And with more than six days in our little cottage first up on the list was some serious help for my feet. I will spare the gritty details about my feet, but let’s just say that they were not looking too pretty. Every time I unleashed …

Some people think that I’m a bit crazy for adding in countries and cities that they’ve barely heard of. Heck, I admit that I didn’t even know quite where Croatia was when I first grabbed the Lonely Plant off of the library shelf and added it to the stack of considerations. All of my route-planning research was done at the public library around August and September; I literally checked out a stack of 20-or-so Lonely Planets and guidebooks on every location that looked both remotely interesting and was near …

The cab to the ferry to the ferry
The cab makes the 2 kilometer drive to the docks in record time and we tumble out of the vehicle in true clown car style, sling our packs onto our backs and dart into the customs line for a perfunctory passport check where the customs official stamps our passports and rapidly shoos us away to catch the ferry.
It’s still there!
As we jog toward our ferry we pass by a large group of older Eastern European …

One of the less charming features of the Assisi hostel was the lock-out from 9:30am through 4:00pm – that meant that although we didn’t need to leave for the train station until nearly 11:00am we were forced to sit outside of the Ostello de Pace for a couple of hours warming up in the morning sunlight until it was time to catch the public bus to the train station. This bus was the first of the eight legs of our never ending travel day.
One of the reasons I …

I’m actually a bit sad to leave Florence so soon…even though we’ve been here for six days, the city is really beautiful with undeniable charm. I can actually imagine my self living here, which is not something I can say about most big cities. But the RTW trip has to continue! Jenn’s uncle highly suggested a stop in Assisi –in fact he absolutely raved about the gorgeous countryside and that was enough of an incentive for us to add this small city onto the itinerary.
Trains really are one …
Foodie Delights, Italy »
Florence is an amazing city with a lot of art and history that I spent several days exploring with Helen and Jenn –and although we like to think of ourselves as high brow ladies, we couldn’t pass up the chance for a girls night on the town. Of the several nights we stayed in Florence we sampled the local markets and cooked up a storm in our own hostel kitchen, making some really delicious meals with the local ingredients from Florence’s Central Market (they also had an amazing! …
