My departure date is creeping nearer and the teary goodbyes and last minute visits have already begun. As the date nears all of those friends I touch base with about once a month started emailing en masse. That’s where I am right now. I spent this past weekend up in Orlando visiting with college friends and the such – my fraternity brothers (I was in a co-ed honors fraternity) and I had a delicious and thoroughly overpriced meal at Press 101 in Orlando; a thoroughly cute café in the Dr. Phillips area, which accounts for the fact that I handed over a Jackson for my panini and water; but alas, I content myself with the knowledge that in just two short months $20 will get me as many as five nights of lodging in Southeast Asia.

I also had the chance to see my brother while I was up there and I definitely got a bit teary-eyed saying goodbye to him – it is just weird to think that I won’t see him for an entire year. In fact, I am approaching the point where everyday I have one more person giving me a tight hug, fierce goodbye, and a number of the standard platitudes…on the up side, this also means that I spend every single evening hanging out with friends and cramming in as much quality time with the family as possible, and that’s a good thing.
This weekend my parents and I are taking my niece and nephew to Dinosaur World. We’ve promised Little E this trip for months now and figured this would be a great opportunity for me to have a fun outing with the kids one last time. As for Dinosaur World, this place has over 150 life-size dinos and my 5-year old nephew simply could not be more thrilled. He current refuses to respond to his name and instead you have to call him Rex…as in T-Rex. Basically, it’s my last weekend in town and I’m glad that it is booked solid with visits with the family and my friends.
There’s anxiety clenching in my chest right now whenever I have a down moment to actually think about my upcoming travels, so I am happy to stay busy and for the chance to suffuse my life with enough love from home to carry me through the coming 11 months traveling solo!
